K-Beauty: What is all the fuss about?

Sarang Spa K-Beauty

K-beauty, or Korean beauty, is the hottest trend in skincare and makeup right now. It comes from South Korea and is known for its innovative and effective products and unique approach to skincare. The best part of K-beauty is that it has a multi-step skincare routine, which is different from traditional Western skincare routines that usually consist of just a few products. This approach focuses on treating specific skin concerns like hydration, exfoliation, and brightening, with different products. Another amazing thing about K-beauty is that it uses natural ingredients, such as green tea, honey, and snail mucin. These ingredients are gentle on the skin and have nourishing and rejuvenating properties.

But that’s not all, K-beauty also includes a wide range of makeup products, such as BB creams, cushion compacts, and lip tints. These products are designed to enhance the skin and give a natural dewy finish. If you want to try something new and exciting for your skincare, K-beauty is perfect for you. It offers something for everyone and is a great choice for anyone looking for a more comprehensive and natural approach to skincare and makeup.

Give it a try and see the difference it can make in your skin, you won’t regret it!

What are the Steps to a K-Beauty Routine?

K-beauty routines can have as many as 10 or more steps, which can seem overwhelming at first. However, it’s important to remember that not all steps are necessary for every person, and you can customize the routine to fit your own unique skincare needs. Here are the typical steps of a K-beauty routine:

  1. Double cleansing: This step involves using an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and sunscreen, followed by a water-based cleanser to cleanse the skin.

  2. Exfoliating: This step involves using a chemical exfoliant, such as an AHA or BHA, to gently remove dead skin cells and improve the texture of the skin.

  3. Toning: This step involves using a toner to balance the pH of the skin and prepare it for the next steps.

  4. Essence: This step involves using an essence to hydrate and nourish the skin.

  5. Serum: This step involves using a serum to target specific skin concerns, such as acne or aging.

  6. Sheet mask: This step involves using a sheet mask to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin.

  7. Eye cream: This step involves using an eye cream to moisturize and reduce the appearance of dark circles and wrinkles around the eyes.

  8. Moisturizer: This step involves using a moisturizer to hydrate and protect the skin.

  9. Sunscreen:  It is important to use sunscreen as a regular step in a skincare routine to protect the skin from harmful UV rays, which can cause sun damage and pigmentation. It’s considered one of the most important step in a skincare routine to protect the skin from sun-related issues.

  10. Sleeping mask: This step is optional but it is a great way to provide an extra boost of hydration and nourishment while you sleep.

People often confuse essence and serum as they are often considered to be the same step in a K-beauty skincare routine. However, they have distinct functions and formulations.

An essence is a lightweight, watery liquid that hydrates and nourishes the skin by providing high concentrations of active ingredients such as antioxidants and brightening agents. It is applied before other products to prepare the skin for better absorption. On the other hand, a serum is a concentrated, nutrient-rich formula that targets specific skin concerns, such as wrinkles or uneven skin tone. Serums have a thicker consistency and contain a higher concentration of active ingredients.

At Sarang Spa, our Hydrodllongic Serum and Collagen serums are formulated as essences. These essences hydrate and nourish the skin while also providing additional benefits such as brightening and anti-aging. They are typically applied before other skincare products to prepare the skin for better absorption. Our Vitamin C Serum, on the other hand, is a serum that targets specific skin concerns such as uneven skin tone or dullness by providing a high concentration of active ingredients like Vitamin C, which is known for its brightening and antioxidant properties. It is typically applied after cleansing and toning, but before moisturizing, to target specific concerns. It’s important to note that the distinction between essence and serum can vary depending on the brand or product. This example is based on the classification of these products at Sarang Spa.

Again, it’s important to remember that not all steps are necessary for every person and you can customize the routine to fit your own unique skincare needs. It’s also essential to consult a beauty therapist if you have any specific skin condition before starting any skincare routine.

What K-Beauty Products to use?

There are so many great Korean beauty brands out there, but it can be challenging to get your hands on them in Australia. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the benefits of a Korean skincare routine. There are many excellent Australian brands and ingredients that you can use to achieve similar results. The key is to find products that are gentle on the skin, as repeated use is crucial for the effectiveness of the routine. So, don’t feel limited by geographical boundaries, experiment with different products and ingredients and find the perfect routine that works for you.

For my skincare routine, I like to use a variety of products from different brands include Lindsay & Sarang Spa.  However, I particularly enjoy using products from Sarang Spa (yes,  I am biased)  as it is 100% natural ingredients and for its gentle yet effective products.

All in all, I find that using a combination of different brands and products helps to keep my skin looking and feeling its best. The key is to use gentle products that can be used regularly, as this will help to maintain a healthy and balanced complexion.
